What is grace? The dictionary says it means ease and smoothness in movement or manner. The KJV explains grace as God’s unearned favor, kindness, and a free gift to people who do not deserve it. This grace brings salvation, forgiveness, and spiritual change through Christ, not because of anything we have done.
We have all done some type of work on ourselves, and the results may not have come fast enough, or we may feel that our prayers are not being answered. We all must find ways to give grace to ourselves.
Why Self-Grace Matters
Just as God extends grace to us freely, we are called to extend that same grace inward. Self-grace means acknowledging our imperfections without harsh judgment, recognizing that growth is a process, not an instant transformation. When we beat ourselves up for falling short, we reject the very principle of grace that has been given to us.
Helpful Ways to Give Yourself Grace
Recognize the work you’re putting in, not the outcome.
Acknowledge your efforts!
If you have made a decision to work on yourself, then that is significant all on its own. Every bit of effort, every prayer, every step toward growth counts—even when the change isn’t visible yet.
Remember God’s Timing. Trust the Process!
Ecclesiastes 3:11 in the King James Version (KJV) reads: "He hath made every thing beautiful in his time: also he hath set the world in their heart, so that no man can find out the work that God maketh from the beginning to the end".
Sometimes it may feel like a delayed response. Remember, the timing may be preparing you for what’s ahead. Don’t give up!
Just do it!
Every day, throughout the day, take a look in the mirror and practice being kinder to yourself. Offer yourself the same kindness you freely give to others, and turn the kindness you show others inward, allowing affirmations to replace negative self‑judgment.
Rest! Be still!
Grace includes permission to rest. Sometimes the most gracious thing you can do is simply be still. Stillness invites clarity. The moment you stop forcing outcomes and allow space for clarity; it will rise on its own.
When the journey feels slow, and your progress seems smaller than you hoped, Soul Focus Beauty reminds you to soften your expectations. When you feel frustrated with your pace or disappointed in your progress, pause and take a look in the mirror and remind yourself that grace isn’t earned by speed or perfection. It’s freely given by God. And that includes the grace you give yourself.
